Chesed Shel Emes also addresses another vital need in the field of caring for niftarim. Halacha mandates that all blood and severed body parts be interred together with a niftar. This injunction is especially valid in the event of a fatal accident or disaster r"l. When that happens, Chesed Shel Emes volunteers will instantly appear on the scene and carefully address this gruesome but vital task, ensuring that everything is done according to Halacha.
It does not matter where, what time of the day or night, or which day in the calendar (except Shabbos), rain or snow, the Chesed Shel Emes volunteers will travel to the other end of the country and even abroad if nessecery, to do this Holy task.
With Chesed Shel Emes on the scene, every niftar in assured the highest standard of Kavod Hames, regardless of who they were or where they came from. Every halacha and minhag is carried out by every niftar. Any difficult or unusual circumstances are discussed with a board of distinguished rabbonim who are always available.
Unfortunately hundreds of scenes have already been cleaned by our volunteers, and we have to give credit where credit is due, special thanks has to be given to all the government agencies involved at all the scenes, may it be the NYPD, MTA, OEM, NYS Police, and many other agencies, for their understanding, sensitivity, and cooperation with us. They have cut power for train stations and kept them closed for hours, major highways have been kept closed after accident investigations were completed, and we have been given access to restricted areas in order for us to be able to complete our avodas hakodesh. Even the Federal Government cooperated with us perfectly in the past, such as in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, when FEMA and the US Army offered us all the help needed to accomplish our avodas hakodesh.
At the recent meeting that was held between Chesed Shel Emes and Federal Agencies in Washington DC, protocols were established of how to improve even more the relationship and coordination between Chesed Shel Emes and the Federal Authorities, in case of future major tragedies or disasters R"L.
