Chesed Shel Emes Florida Division preserves Kavod Hames

Sunday morning a vacationer from Brooklyn passed away in a Miami Beach hotel. His personal aide alerted emergency services. The person was declared dead- and as a routine Miami Dade homicide detective squad was dispatched to the hotel. The family then contacted Chesed Shel Emes for assistance to arrange transportation for the Nifter to be brought back to NY, for funeral and burial. Chesed Shel Emes central office dispatched Mr. Chaim M. (Mark) Rosenberg, Florida division supervisor of Chesed Shel Emes to respond to the scene. Mr. Rosenberg arrived at the hotel and started the task of explaining to the detective Bert Gutierrez the religious concerns of halachic handling of a deceased, and that an autopsy is to be avoided when possible. The doctor of the deceased was contacted by the detective through the help of CSE and B”h all suspicions or criminality were ruled out. Miami Dade medical examiner’s office came to remove the body, while Chesed Shel Emes supervisor Mr. Rosenberg accompanied the nifter to make sure and to observe that no “bezayon hames” occurs. B”H after a short external examination the nifter was cleared to be released. Chesed Shel Emes contacted Rabbi Yeruchem Kopelman of Miami Chevra Kadisha who transported the Nifter on to a flight to NY. Chesed Shel Emes thanked commissioner DR. Bruce A. Hyma, Deputy commissioner DR. Emma O. Lew and Dr. Curry of the medical examiner’s office for the swift handling of this case - and for always understanding the religious, halachic and rituals-concerning a deceased.
